I was recently asked if I’d like to help out the Neonatal Unit at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr. A customer of mine, Future Valleys Construction have been working with them to raise funds for the hospital and asked if there was anything that I do to help promote the ward.

I suggested that we create a virtual tour of the unit using one of our Matterport cameras. The staff at the hospital could then use the technology to showcase their facilities to expectant parents.

I visited the hospital and was truly impressed by the professionalism and dedication of the healthcare team. The environment was calm yet bustling with activity, with nurses, midwives and doctors working tirelessly to care for the tiniest of patients. The level of expertise and compassion displayed by the staff was truly amazing.

The specialised care provided to premature babies and newborns with health complications was truly remarkable. The team not only focused on the physical well-being of the babies but also provided emotional support to the families during what must be a very emotional, yet exciting time.

This is the virtual tour that we created, it’s a ‘Digital Twin’ created by using a 360 camera and Lidar scanner. It’s then stitched into a 3D model that can be navigated by the user by clicking on the icons and hotspots. We create a lot of these for estate agents, office based businesses, holiday accommodation and even construction companies. This is the first time however that we have scanned a hospital and it was a refreshing change.

Hopefully it’ll be used by many families in the years to come and it’ll help prepare them for what’s ahead. Click on the virtual tour below and view in full screen to see the incredible facilities that are available.
